Yoga with Thara
“Yoga is about awareness. My goal for every asana is to feel the flow of breath and the energy in the body.”
About My Practice
Thara Srinivasan, PhD, is a graduate of The Yoga Room’s Advanced Studies Program and has been teaching classes and workshops since 2011. She has been practicing yoga and meditation for nearly 20 years. Her primary teachers are Mary Lou Weprin, Gay White, and Donald Moyer, and she is inspired by the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar and T.K.V. Desikachar, as well as Taoist qi gong.
Yoga has been a strong tradition in Thara’s family for generations. She learned yoga breathwork and meditation from her grandfather, a lifelong yogi, and viniyoga (a style of yoga movement with the breath) from her father, a student of T.K.V. Desikachar. Like yoga, the ancient art of qi gong also seeks to cultivate vitality and awareness, and Thara has studied qi gong at the Wen Wu School in El Cerrito and with Master S. Y. Yao (former Grand Master of qi gong and kung fu at the Shaolin Temple in China).
By incorporating these time-honored ways of working with the breath into her teaching, Thara offers classes and workshops to revitalize the body and mind. With deep experience using yoga therapeutically, she is dedicated to creating a safe environment for a joyful practice for students of all levels.
